Unique Tour Experiences

Frequently Asked Questions

Curio Italia offers immersive, small-group and custom-designed tours rooted in real Italian culture—not mass-market tourism. We focus on authentic, local experiences: family-owned vineyards, artisans' studios, countryside cooking classes, and heritage towns you won’t find on standard itineraries. With deep local ties and a passion for slow travel, our tours prioritize connection, storytelling, and memory-making over checklists.

We specialize in small-group journeys and custom itineraries that showcase Italy’s regional diversity. From ancient ruins to seaside villages and mountain hamlets, our curated routes offer a balance of guided discovery and unhurried exploration. Whether you're a first-time visitor or returning for deeper experiences, we design tours that reflect your interests—art, food, history, or pure relaxation.

Most of our tours include lodging, ground transport, curated meals, guided excursions, and entry to cultural sites. You'll receive a detailed breakdown for each tour. We leave space for independent meals and moments to wander—because discovering a hidden trattoria or gelato stand on your own is part of the magic.

Our prices reflect high-quality experiences, local guides, and handcrafted itineraries—but without the overhead of large tour companies. You’re not paying for large 50-person buses or big advertising budgets. You're investing in personal service, trusted partnerships, and access to places that mass tourism skips.

Yes. Curio Italia is a registered U.S.-based travel company in California.  Curio Italia is part of Perretti Tours LLC and is a licensed Seller of Travel in the State of California.  We work directly with licensed guides, vetted hosts, and local partners.

Italy is beautiful year-round, but spring (April–June) and fall (September–October) offer ideal weather, fewer crowds, and vibrant local festivals. These are our favorite months for travel and the focus of all Curio Italia tours. . If you’re dreaming of a quieter trip with local color, off-season options like early November or March can also be magical.  We sometimes offer special tours during these months.

Absolutely. That’s our specialty. We believe travel should feel like connection, not consumption. You'll share meals with locals, walk with expert guides who know every corner of their city, and visit working farms, family estates, or hidden monasteries that most tourists miss. It's Italy, not just visited—but felt.

Not at all. Our guides and hosts speak English, and we provide translation or cultural tips as needed. That said, we encourage you to learn a few simple phrases—it always brings smiles and enriches the experience. We even provide a fun mini language card with your travel materials.

Our group tours are intentionally small—usually 6 to 12 guests. This allows for more personal connections, flexible pacing, and access to experiences that larger groups simply can’t enjoy. Whether we’re dining in a tiny village osteria or walking through a quiet archeological site, you’ll never feel rushed or lost in the crowd.

Yes! Solo travelers are warmly welcomed. We often host individuals who want to explore Italy with like-minded companions in a friendly, intimate setting. We can also design custom solo itineraries, including guided and self-guided elements. Many solo travelers tell us they felt supported and safe throughout their journey—and left with new friends.

Absolutely. Umm... it IS Italy!  Culinary experiences are at the heart of Italian culture—and our tours. We often include vineyard visits, regional tastings, family-style meals, and cooking classes led by locals. You’ll learn the stories behind the food and wine while enjoying unforgettable meals in stunning settings.

We design tours across Italy, with special expertise in Rome, the Amalfi Coast, Cilento, Tuscany, Umbria, and Puglia. We seek out regions rich in history, beauty, and authentic culture—often those less saturated by tourism. If you have a specific region in mind, we likely know it well and can build a meaningful experience there.

We design most tours with moderate walking and flexibility built in. In some occasions, you will spend several hours walking.  We try and keep the pace consistent with "slow travel". However, Italy’s charm often includes cobblestone streets, stairs, and hilly terrain. We’ll always let you know in advance what to expect, and we can adjust the pace or arrange alternatives to suit your comfort level.

For group tours, we recommend booking 4–6 months in advance, especially during peak travel seasons. Custom itineraries should be planned as early as possible to secure accommodations and guides in smaller destinations. Last-minute travelers are always welcome to inquire—we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

Life happens—we understand. Our cancellation and change policies are designed to be fair and flexible. Specific terms are outlined with each tour, but we also highly recommend travel insurance and will work with you to reschedule or adjust plans where possible.

Yes. While we don’t book flights directly, we provide guidance on timing, airports, and routes. For hotels or experiences before or after your tour, we’re happy to suggest or book accommodations that match our quality standards—especially if you want to extend your trip.

It’s easy—just reach out via www.curioitalia.com and tell us a bit about your travel hopes. We’ll schedule a call or begin crafting ideas by email. There’s no pressure—just a shared love of Italy and a desire to create something beautiful together. We handle the details so you can enjoy the anticipation.
